Reshma Gopaldas interviewed her mother and aunt for marriage advice but received unexpected and humorous insights instead. Her aunt bluntly suggested skipping marriage, while her mother offered practical reasons to marry, like having someone to make tea and take out the garbage. As Gopaldas continued filming, their conversations turned raw and meaningful, resonating with women contemplating marriage and motherhood. The candid discussions serve as a form of permission for women to reconsider traditional expectations.
When asked for advice on marriage, her aunt responded bluntly: "Skip it." Her mother offers a cryptic response of her own: "Don't be deaf, dumb and blind, like me."
Asked for reasons to get married, her mom deadpans: "Somebody to make your cup of tea. Somebody to drive you. And somebody to take out the garbage."
In the videos, Roma Gopaldas and Mirchandani continue to hold nothing back. "I have five wonderful grandchildren who are the light of my life," Mirchandani says in one post about motherhood.
I think it's getting permission from a previous generation - especially for women - to not have to get married and have children.
