Sibling relationships are unique and integral to our lives, providing emotional support and shared histories. They often serve as a source of comfort and humor that spans decades. When a sibling passes away, the grief can be deeply felt yet often minimized. While society is sensitive to the loss of siblings in childhood, the mourning experienced by adults is often disenfranchised. Recognizing the significance of these relationships is crucial, and there are effective methods to help individuals understand and cope with sibling loss.
Siblings are family-tied through life by kinship. Yet, unlike most family relationships, sibling relationships are more equal, less hierarchical.
During those weeks, my sister and I were cared for by an aunt who valued regularity. Quizzed about bowel movements, we learned the importance of connection and humor.
