The Case Against Perfectionism
Briefly

When asked to state your greatest weakness, you might want to cleverly disguise a strength as a weakness, saying you're a perfectionist. However, perfectionism is not merely high standards; it’s a compulsive need to appear flawless as anything less is deemed unacceptable.
Perfectionism can significantly hinder job performance, as perfectionists often take excessive time on tasks for minor details. For instance, I've worked with physicians who delayed completing their notes because they fixate on trivial errors, leading to inefficiency.
Perfectionists tend to procrastinate, feeling immense pressure to be perfect on assigned tasks. This anxiety can lead them to avoid the tasks altogether, which perpetuates a cycle of anxiety and avoidance.
Moreover, perfectionists often shy away from challenges that push them beyond their comfort zones, gravitating toward tasks they believe carry a low likelihood of failure, ultimately limiting their growth.
