Google Abandons the Last Elements of its Cookie Phase-Out Plan

Recently, Google reversed its decision to modify cookie tracking practices in Chrome, effectively halting its Privacy Sandbox initiative intended to enhance data privacy. Initially set to phase out third-party cookies by 2022, Google's plans included adopting a new tracking model known as FLoC, which faced resistance from its advertising partners. After additional delays and consultations, Google introduced a revised Privacy Sandbox project in September 2023, proposing categorization of web users instead of individual tracking. Ultimately, Google decided to maintain existing cookie choices in response to diverse industry concerns, allowing users to manage privacy settings as before.
Taking all of these factors into consideration, we've made the decision to maintain our current approach to offering users third-party cookie choice in Chrome.
Google announced its initial plan to phase out cookie tracking in 2020, aligning with industry shifts towards enhanced data privacy.
After various concerns from the ecosystem, including publishers and regulators, Google has decided not to roll out a new standalone prompt for third-party cookies.
Users can continue to choose the best option for themselves in Chrome's Privacy and Security Settings.
