Sango Kura, founded by Jason Cooper in Delaware Water Gap, PA, is the state's first sake brewery. Inspired by his experiences in Japan, Cooper crafts fresh sake using rice and koji spores. Since its opening in 2018, Sango Kura has become a unique izakaya, serving not only a variety of sake, including distinct flavors like bourbon barrel-aged and plum variations, but also traditional Japanese pub food alongside American favorites, creating a bridge between Japanese and American bar cultures.
You can really notice the difference with home-brewed, fresh sake, explains Cooper.
In 2018, Cooper opened Sango Kura with the goal of bringing sake to his hometown in Pennsylvania.
