I was a lifelong Californian before moving to Maine in my 20s - but I've fallen in love with the perks of living in New England
Briefly

After relocating from California to Portland, Maine for a residency, I discovered a love for New England's changing seasons and the city's vibrant food scene. The food options exceeded my expectations, from fresh seafood like lobster to unique local treats such as potato doughnuts. Each season in Portland brings new experiences, contrasting with California's milder climate. Summers are lively with tourism and outdoor fun, while the transition into fall introduces a quieter, calm vibe. My initial plan to leave has transformed into a strong attachment to my new home in Portland.
Portland has stolen my heart, and there are a few reasons I can't imagine being happier anywhere else.
The city has tons of unique treats like potato doughnuts at Holy Donut, plus locally brewed beers, kombucha, and coffee.
In California, many of the seasons can blur together and are fairly mild. Here, I like seeing and feeling them change.
The midsize city has a fairly diverse culinary scene featuring Japanese, Latin American, Chinese, and Cajun restaurants.
