Nakano House / Suzuko Yamada Architects
Briefly

The architects designed a compact home for a couple and their two cats on a small lot in a dense neighborhood. Featuring a mere 26 square meters, the house integrates necessary living elements while fostering a dynamic relationship between architecture and life. Its structure includes an outer shell with stairs, walkways, and benches, while the arrangement of objects allows for fluid living. This unique design enables the cats and natural light to interact with the space, reinforcing the playful tension between architecture and life without fully merging them.
The house's design prioritizes open and enclosed spaces, where domestic life unfolds amidst a dense arrangement of essential objects reflecting both form and function.
With limited space, the architecture provides an outer shell for living but emphasizes the significance of life, nature, and their interrelationship within the structure.
