Marius Borg Hoiby, the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was arrested in Oslo on preliminary charges of rape, linked to an ongoing scandal in the royal family.
According to police, Borg Hoiby violated Norway's penal code concerning sexual intercourse with someone unable to resist. His lawyer insists he is not guilty and is cooperating with the investigation.
The 27-year-old has a controversial past; he faced prior allegations of abusing three women and was arrested in August for bodily harm and damage during a separate incident.
Following his August arrest, Borg Hoiby apologized publicly for causing harm, acknowledging substance abuse issues and stating his intention to seek treatment.
