Rachel Maddow reports on Andrys, a young gay Venezuelan man deported without due process under a Trump administration directive. Identified publicly for safety reasons, Andrys is a 23-year-old makeup artist now imprisoned in El Salvador. His lawyer argues that he was wrongfully flagged for gang affiliation due to tattoos, which are common and not indicative of criminal activity. Andrys had sought asylum in the U.S. but disappeared after deportation. His mother and lawyer fear for his safety as he remains unaccounted for while being held in a notorious prison facility.
These are not the tattoos of somebody who is involved with gangs. These are normal tattoos that you would see on anybody at a coffee shop anywhere in the United States or Venezuela.
And so we know that it is inevitable that our client will be identified, and we feel it's important to let the world know who Andrys, our client, is because he is a human being.
