Social security office opens in historic 16th Street building
Briefly

The historical Superior Automotive building has opened as a Social Security Administration office, marking the end of a 10-year vacancy and previous attempts to sell.
After years of vacancy, this once-thriving corner will now serve the community, activating a space that had attracted graffiti and neglect for far too long.
Designed by architect Joseph L. Stewart in the 1920s, the building represents a unique architectural style aimed at accommodating the automobile era.
MX3 Ventures faced significant challenges in developing the building due to its protective status as a Beaux-Arts structure, which limited redevelopment options.
