According to Modaes' 2023 Report on Online Fashion in Spain, only 8.8% of consumers had made the least one fashion purchase through the online channel in 2013. In 2022, this figure rose to 46.7%, indicating a significant shift in consumer behavior, although a slight stagnation was noted post-pandemic as many return to physical stores.
Daniel Pinto Pajares, a professor of e-Commerce, illustrates that transportation emissions are complex. A second-hand product's emissions can exceed those of a new garment purchased locally, depending on various factors such as manufacturing origin and transport distance.
One major drawback of online shopping is the emissions generated from transportation. It's crucial to note that while physical stores create emissions, delivering numerous products to one location is typically more efficient than individual home deliveries.
