The winery in Donja Reka encapsulates the essence of local viticulture traditions by integrating the region's agricultural heritage into its architectural design. Featuring a vertical organization of spaces—such as a reinforced concrete cellar and a timber attic—the structure emphasizes traditional materials like brick and timber, while embracing modern construction techniques. The thoughtful design is inspired by local farm structures and aims to create a harmonious blend between functionality, cultural significance, and sustainability through elements like a biodynamic roof garden.
While visiting Donja Reka, we noticed a farmyard with a wooden barn and a 100-year-old stable with brick walls. This inspired our design process.
Relying on tradition and using ancient yet modernized methods are vital to creating natural wines, preserving values passed down through generations in this region.
