Report: A Record-Number of Kids Were Killed on NYC Streets Last Year - Streetsblog New York City

Under Mayor Adams' leadership, child deaths from car crashes have surged, hitting alarming numbers. A report from Transportation Alternatives reveals that 16 children were killed last year alone, matching a record from 2022. More children died in the last three years than in any other span since the Vision Zero initiative began. Disturbingly, many victims were pedestrians or cyclists, highlighting the need for immediate action to enhance street safety.
"Our elected leaders must realize that their inaction has consequences in the form of dead children, siblings, parents and friends," said Maria Sumba, whose daughters were struck by a truck driver.
"The time is now to take action that will save other families from living this nightmare," she concluded.
