Nursery worker issues cancer warning after thinking she simply had a stomach bug
Briefly

Chloe Wakelin, a 26-year-old mother, attributed her alarming symptoms to a stomach bug but was later diagnosed with stage three bowel cancer after months of misdiagnosis. Despite frequent visits to her GP, who suggested a viral infection, Chloe discovered she was critically ill and required immediate surgery following a dramatic deterioration in her condition. After the surgery and a tough chemotherapy regimen, she is now in remission but feels let down by the healthcare system and is motivated to raise awareness about the signs of bowel cancer.
I was working in a nursery and I was around children all the time so I just thought that if it was a stomach bug, I'd picked it up from the children.
When you're going continuously to the doctor and they dismiss your concerns, you start to question if it’s all in your head.
Chloe says she felt 'everything had crumbled around her' when she got the news but is now thankfully in remission after four rounds of gruelling chemotherapy.
She feels 'let down' by the doctors who brushed off her concerns for months and is keen to raise awareness of symptoms to look out for.
