In 'My Husband, the Cyborg', director Susanna Cappellaro explores her complex relationship with her husband, Scott Cohen, as they navigate the realms of body modification. While Scott's desire for a permanent compass represents a quest for identity, the film highlights the emotional chasm between the couple. Despite Susanna's warmth and charisma, Scott's narcissistic tendencies and guarded nature create tension. Instead of deeply examining the motivations behind their body modifications, the documentary leaves the audience reflecting on the disintegration of their marriage, which is compelling yet ultimately sad.
I confess that as the film went on I came to loathe Scott and longed for Susanna to dump him because clearly she could do a lot better.
Scott sees this as his chance to become a kind of cyborg with a new sixth sense few others on the planet have.
