Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey advocates for year-round daylight saving time, emphasizing that maintaining sunlight in the evening enhances people's mood and well-being.
Together with Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Markey co-sponsored the Sunshine Protection Act, a bill aimed at making daylight saving time permanent, which passed the Senate in 2022 but stalled in the House.
Markey highlighted the negative impacts of changing clocks on economy, health, and happiness, calling for an end to the 'head-spinning ritual' of time changes.
He stressed that more sunlight leads to improved mental states, saying, 'We need to make sure that the hour of sunlight... is in the evening so people's mouths can be turned upwards in a smile.'
