Audrey Barton, a mother from Missouri, has created a unique living arrangement for her 12-year-old daughter, Isabella, by allowing her to inhabit an apartment above their garage. This setup not only gives Isabella a sense of independence while remaining close to home, but also allows the family to save money by avoiding rent. Barton believes this arrangement will be beneficial for her children in the long run, promoting both independence and financial responsibility, as they can focus on saving for their futures.
"It's a feeling of independence without actually having to be independent," Audrey Barton, a mother of three in Missouri, tells TODAY.com.
"We are not millionaires, but we can create generational wealth by allowing our kids to live with us as long as possible" while saving up without paying rent, Barton said.
