Authorities are investigating the disappearance of Elizabeth Pollard, 64, who went searching for her cat and is feared to have fallen into a newly opened sinkhole. Despite efforts to find her, including using pole cameras, the search has yet to yield positive results.
John Bacha, chief of the Pleasant Valley volunteer fire company, emphasized the urgency of the situation: "We're hoping there is still a void she could be in... we are pretty confident we are in the right place." Rescuers continue their search efforts, but hope for her recovery is dwindling.
Investigators discovered a shoe approximately 30 feet below the surface of the sinkhole, leading to concerns that Pollard may have been swallowed up by the sudden opening. Steve Limani from the state police remarked, "It almost feels like it opened up with her standing on top of it."
Pollard's family had reported her missing after she went to look for her cat, Pepper. Her granddaughter, who was found safe in the car, indicates Pollard’s sudden disappearance was alarming, with restaurant staff unaware of the sinkhole's existence prior to the incident.
