Martha recalled, "I went home and told my dad, and my dad slapped me. Slapped me hard on my face and said, 'No, you're not marrying him. He's a Jew.'"
Martha remembered, "I was not at all surprised because he was a bigot, and he was impulsive. But I said, 'I'm gonna get married no matter what you think.'"
Martha shared about her wedding: "The wedding day was very happy. It was the beginning of my life."
Martha reflected on her father's impact: "He thought I was more like him than the other children. He got the job done that he was set out to do."
