Instagram is piloting a private dislike button for comments, allowing users to signal dissatisfaction without others knowing. According to CEO Adam Mosseri, the button could eventually influence comment rankings, lowering disliked comments to foster a friendlier commenting environment. Instagram spokesperson Christine Pai added this feature aims to enhance user control over their experience on the platform. The testing is currently limited to a small user group, with potential future developments depending on its effectiveness in improving interactions.
If you see the button and press it, however, people won't know that you did so, and there won't be a dislike count shown.
Our hope is that this might help make comments more friendly on Instagram.
