Recently, there was confusion regarding placement exclusions for Google Ads Performance Max campaigns. Ginny Marvin clarified via email that while account-level exclusions supported by the API are respected, campaign-level exclusions are not currently available. Improvements for clear documentation are underway to address this mix-up. Certain placements can be excluded at the account level through the API, but it's important to note that exclusions cannot be directly applied to individual campaigns. This response stems from a request for clarification by Navah Hopkins, prompting Google to enhance its guidance.
The Google Ads API supports account-level placement exclusions which are respected by Performance Max campaigns, but campaign-level exclusions are not currently feasible.
We apologize for the confusion and have committed to correcting documentation to clearly outline the functioning of placement exclusions in the Ads ecosystem.
There was no reversal of stance on placement exclusions; instead, clarification is being provided to resolve confusion stemming from unclear documentation.
Account-level placement exclusion lists are respected by Performance Max, while the API does not currently support these lists at the account level.
