The European Commission opened an investigation into Chinese online shopping platform Temu for allegedly failing to eliminate the sale of illegal products.
European Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager emphasized that Temu must comply with the Digital Services Act to ensure consumer safety by meeting EU standards.
Temu, classified as a 'very large online platform,' faces significant scrutiny under the Digital Services Act, which includes the threat of substantial fines.
Should the investigation find Temu in violation of the Digital Services Act, the company could incur fines equivalent to six percent of its global turnover.
