Lactic acid isn't actually a real thing in exercise physiology; it's more fable than fact. The body produces lactate, which is misunderstood as a harmful byproduct.
When training, muscles produce ATP using carbohydrates. Glycolysis creates pyruvate, which becomes lactate if oxygen is limited, serving as a valuable energy source.
Lactate is not the enemy; during exercise, it’s exported to the liver to be converted back to carbohydrates, fueling further activity.
The burning sensation in muscles during intense training isn't caused by lactate, nor does lactate create the gut discomfort often wrongly attributed to it.
