Celebrations tubs to Cadbury treats - the Christmas chocolates that have shrunk
Briefly

In a recent analysis, Which? uncovered that several popular chocolates have shrunk in size over the past year as part of a trend known as 'shrinkflation', where products decrease in quantity but prices do not. Cadbury's offerings like Mini Snowballs and Selection Boxes have notably decreased in weight, forcing consumers to pay more per gram. Notably, these changes could lead shoppers to feel disappointment this holiday season as they stock up on festive treats.
Cadbury's Mini Snowballs, once weighing 296g, have decreased to 270g, leading to a staggering 30% price increase per 100g. Similarly, the medium Santa selection box has shrunk from 145g to 125g, a reduction of 14%, with the highest 100g price hike seen at Morrisons, reaching 59%. Such shrinkage means consumers are essentially paying more for less, impacting their holiday buy.
Which? pointed out that the Celebrations tub, a Christmas staple, has shrunk from 600g to 550g - an 8% reduction - with Asda recording a notable price increase of 45% per 100g. Such patterns are likely frustrating for those accustomed to stocking up on their seasonal favorites and could lead to unanticipated costs this holiday season.
The Dairy Box 'Winter Collection' from Nestle has reduced its offering from 40 to 36 chocolates while narrowing the variety from ten different types to only eight. This change, combined with a price increase of £2, exemplifies the broader shrinkflation trend impacting holiday products, where familiar festive treats are becoming scarcer and costlier.
