British Airways is shifting its loyalty program focus from miles flown to customer spending, offering both more earning opportunities and higher hurdles for status.
The new structure, launching in April 2025, aims to reward spending at $1.25 per Tier Point and introduces additional ways to earn, such as credit card purchases.
Colm Lacy, BA's Chief Commercial Officer, stated that the changes reflect the evolving needs of travelers and were influenced by member feedback, prioritizing loyalty.
Leisure travelers are particularly affected by the raised thresholds for status, requiring 20,000 points for gold, making it significantly tougher to gain elite access.
