Cheese tea is not what you might expect; instead of cheddar, it’s cream cheese whipped until foamy, layered onto sweet cold tea for a unique taste.
Originating in Taiwan around 2010, cheese tea surged in popularity thanks to HeyTea, inspiring long lines and eventually spreading to major U.S. cities by 2017.
Despite an initial wave of interest in the U.S., cheese tea didn’t reach its full potential at first, but a resurgence may be imminent with new store openings.
