Starbucks visitors will have to order something or be with someone who does in order to hang out at one of the chain's stores, starting January 27. This change replaces the open-door policy the company had since addressing incidents of racial profiling in 2018.
The new policy aims to prioritize paying customers who wish to enjoy the atmosphere of the cafés, or require restroom access during their visit, as emphasized by a Starbucks spokesperson.
In another shift, starting January 27, Starbucks will offer free refills on brewed coffees and teas to all customers, aiming to attract more patrons and improve in-store experience.
The return of self-serve condiment bars in early 2025 reflects Starbucks' effort to create a more customer-friendly environment while trying to boost sales amidst declining numbers.
