4 firefighters hurt in massive blaze at long-vacant NYC building: officials
Briefly

A four-alarm fire erupted in a long-vacant Harlem apartment building, causing injuries to four firefighters and extensive damage. The blaze started on the lower floors of the five-story building and rapidly spread, prompting a substantial response involving 39 FDNY units and 180 firefighters. Firefighters faced challenges due to the building's structural instability, leading to an exterior attack strategy. After nearly four hours, the fire was brought under control, with minor injuries reported among firefighters. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by fire marshals.
Four firefighters were hospitalized with minor injuries, including sprains and strains, and one had minor burns on the back of his hand.
Due to the structural stability of this building, as it was vacant for many years, and the amount of fire, we had to pull our members out of the building and go to an exterior fire attack.
