Parcelhero’s data indicates that the volume and value of returns post-Christmas have seen a significant rise with around £1.51 billion worth of goods being returned this year, marking an uptick of 6.8% compared to last year's figures.
David Jinks, Parcelhero’s Head of Consumer Research, stated that 'there was a notable peak in returns yesterday compared to the slight dip in the volume of returns last year, suggesting consumers engaged more in shopping ahead of the holidays.'
Despite slow foot traffic in retail stores in December, online sales showed robust performance leading up to Christmas, revealing a complex relationship between physical retail success and e-commerce growth.
The timeline for online returns remains critical, as shoppers have 14 days from receipt of an order to notify sellers of their intention to return for a full refund, with another 14 days to send items back.
