Using area data from the U.S. Census Bureau's 2022 American Community Survey, 24/7 Wall St. identified the city with the poorest middle class in each state.

Anniston-Oxford has an average household income among the middle 20% of earners of $40,807 to $64,348, which is lower than the state average.

Financial stability for middle-class families across the U.S. is increasingly threatened as income benchmarks shift unfavorably, making luxuries like dining out and vacations harder to afford.
