Adam Mosseri announced that Instagram is increasing the maximum length for Reels to three minutes, doubling the previous 90-second limit, in response to user feedback.
Mosseri stated that the change to a three-minute limit is intended to give creators more flexibility for creative expression, acknowledging that the previous cap felt restrictive for many.
With this update, Mosseri emphasized Instagram's commitment to short-form video content while also hinting at an evolving strategic focus to remain competitive with platforms like TikTok and YouTube.
In addition to the longer Reels, Mosseri highlighted another visual update where profile grids will now display content in rectangles, allowing users to view their uploads more clearly.
