The Silvertown Tunnel, a key project unveiled in 2012, links Newham with the Greenwich Peninsula and is expected to save commuters time while increasing bus routes significantly. The tunnel, managed by TfL and Riverlinx Limited, allows more buses to cross the Thames, introducing new routes that improve connectivity, including the Superloop 4. It features a toll for managing traffic and financing maintenance, along with concessions for local low-income residents. In addition, the former construction site will be repurposed for housing and development, aligning with the Mayor of London's plans for broader regeneration in the Royal Docks.
"The new Silvertown Tunnel will transform travel in the south and east of our city, particularly across the River Thames, and will help to address chronic congestion and poor air quality around Blackwall Tunnel."
"A toll charge has been introduced for the Silvertown and Blackwall tunnels between 6am and 10pm, seven days a week to manage traffic levels and cover construction costs."
