Plans for cultural hub at house of William Blake backed by London Assembly
Briefly

The Assembly recently endorsed plans to transform 17 South Molton Street into a cultural hub honoring William Blake. The William Blake Fellowship is in discussions with Grosvenor, the property's owner, to integrate Blake's legacy within a broader redevelopment of the area, which includes commercial spaces and amenities. Blake's former residence, where he lived for 17 years and produced significant works, is envisioned as a key attraction. The Fellowship aims to open the center by 2027, coinciding with the bicentennial of Blake's death and his 270th birth anniversary. The plans draw inspiration from successful historic houses in Europe.
The motion in support of the Fellowship's plans was put forward by the Assembly's Labour group, and won support from the Greens and Liberal Democrats.
They believe that the House of William Blake could become a cultural hub attracting visitors, much like Mozart's House and Rembrandt's House in Europe.
