David Summers-Smith, who killed Royce Mallett in July 2024, was found mentally unfit to stand trial due to schizophrenia and psychosis. Supreme Court Justice Dina Yehia ruled that Summers-Smith committed the murder but could not be held criminally responsible. He will be held indefinitely in a mental health facility. Victim impact statements revealed the emotional and financial strain on Mallett's family, with his partner and father expressing profound grief and loss. Summers-Smith's recovery will be monitored by the Mental Health Review tribunal.
