What are the 'ghost marks' on the Elizabeth line?
Briefly

Transport for London has taken a creative approach to address unsightly black marks accumulating on the pristine white walls of Elizabeth line platforms. These marks, resulting from dirty passenger contact, began appearing 18 months post-launch in 2022. In response to concerns from London Assembly member Caroline Pidgeon, TfL trialed various solutions and opted for vibrant vinyl figures, inspired by the train upholstery, to both cover the stains and refresh the visual appeal of the stations. These designs are currently displayed at key stations including Bond Street and Liverpool Street.
Transport for London has installed colourful posters on the Elizabeth line platforms to cover grimy marks caused by dirty backs, heads, and backpacks.
The Elizabeth line director, Howard Smith, mentioned that these stylish new designs will enhance the customer experience by protecting the areas behind the seats.
