Leo Bulgarini's restaurant, Bulgarini Vino Cucina, survived the Eaton fire that devastated much of Altadena, leaving buildings in ruins and displacing many residents. While his establishment endured the flames, the aftermath brought new challenges, including lack of power and running water, and significant uncertainty about future business due to the loss of local customers. Bulgarini noted that even though his restaurant is intact, the community's population has shrunk drastically, making it difficult to sustain business as many patrons lost their homes in the fire.
He felt a mixture of relief but helplessness. Inside, the gelateria and restaurant appeared intact. Then Bulgarini smelled the smoke.
Most of the population here is gone. They are not thinking of getting a gelato with their family. They're not here anymore.
