Unmei, a new Taiwanese dumpling shop in Astoria, opened its doors to address the community's lack of authentic Taiwanese cuisine. Run by siblings Celine and Chef FC Kuo, Unmei specializes in Xiao Long Bao and beef noodle soup, aiming to share their cultural flavors with locals. The name "Unmei" translates to fate, reflecting their journey from moving to the U.S. to fulfilling their dream of restaurant ownership. Their offerings also include popular Taiwanese snacks and desserts, providing a diverse menu and inviting atmosphere for the neighborhood.
"As Taiwanese people, we haven't seen any related restaurants or handmade dumpling houses in this area. Now we can serve ourselves, but at the same time, we can share Taiwanese food with the whole community."
"Unmei can describe our whole experience, the whole American life...Embrace the moment, and fate will lead you to the best situation."
