TalkTalk is currently investigating allegations of a data compromise involving personal information of approximately 19 million current and former customers. These claims emerged on cybercrime forums, where an individual named b0nd asserted possession of these data. TalkTalk's Liz Holloway confirmed the investigation and suggested the incident may relate to a third-party data platform managing a limited part of their customer base. However, the authenticity and details of the breach are still under investigation. The total number of customers claimed appears exaggerated compared to TalkTalk's actual count.
We're aware of these posts, we're investigating it at the moment. We think it relates to an external standalone data platform application that manages a small part of our customer base.
The claims made on b0nd's forum post include that the break-in occurred earlier this month and that the following data is considered compromised: Subscriber PINs, First and last names, Email addresses.
