"We know now what a big change it has brought to people's lives. It was long overdue," says Erica Greenberg, emphasizing the significant impact of the Pay Equity Fund on child care workers' livelihoods and job stability.
"Since the fund's establishment, the District of Columbia's child care workers have seen their wages rise by just over $10,000 a year, on average," showcasing how the initiative has transformed earnings for many.
"With some level of financial stability, teachers have been far less likely to quit. Reduced turnover means child care centers are no longer struggling to recruit and train new employees," highlighting the broader implications of wage increases.
Owen Schochet calculated that the Pay Equity Fund boosted child care employment significantly, reinforcing the economic benefits of supporting early childhood educators through systemic wage improvements.
