A study from Tufts University highlights the importance of carbohydrate quality over mere quantity for healthy aging in women. Analyzing data from the Nurses' Health Study from 1984 to 2016, researchers discovered that participants who consumed refined carbohydrates had lower odds of healthy aging. Conversely, those who focused on high-quality carbohydrates from whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and legumes benefitted from higher chances of aging healthily. Interestingly, increased protein consumption over carbs was linked to lesser odds of healthy aging, indicating that quality carbs might be more crucial than previously believed.
