Steve Huffman, CEO of Reddit, reflected on his return to the company in 2015, highlighting critical shifts he implemented, which involved emphasizing hard work and a pragmatic approach. Huffman noted that while idealism had its merits for the platform, it hindered the company's growth as a sustainable business. He encouraged employees to adopt a rigorous work ethic to thrive in a competitive technology landscape. Under his leadership, Reddit transformed and ultimately became valued at $21 billion, demonstrating the impact of these changes over two decades.
In many ways the idealism has been very good, but we were also idealistic about not being a business - which is not a great way to run a sustainable business.
We have to work really, really hard. We're in a competitive space. If we don't work really hard... then we don't get to do this.
