Ethan Frisch, inspired by a unique seasoning he encountered in an Afghan market, co-founded Burlap & Barrel, a single-origin spice company, to directly source spices from farmers. Having a background in culinary arts and international development, Frisch utilized his experiences to build connections and establish a market for exceptional spices. He invested his savings, initially managing operations from his apartment, and traveled extensively to procure various spices. Since its inception in 2016, the venture has received acclaim, demonstrating the rising demand for high-quality, direct-sourced ingredients in the food industry.
In 2016, I began Burlap & Barrel, a single-origin spice company, after discovering the unique flavor of wild cumin in Afghanistan. The response was incredible.
I thought I knew my way around spices, but the wild cumin I found in Afghanistan was like nothing I'd ever tasted; it opened my eyes to sourcing directly from farmers.
