Axiom Space and Red Hat to take edge computing to orbit
Briefly

Axiom Space is set to send a compact processing prototype, Data Center Unit-1 (AxDCU-1), to the ISS, designed for testing edge computing applications in cloud computing, AI, data fusion, and space cybersecurity. This development aims to enhance data processing capabilities in the constrained environment of space, reducing the need for constant Earth connectivity. By facilitating real-time decision-making in space missions, AxDCU-1 represents a significant step in leveraging edge computing technologies for future space exploration.
The prototype will test applications in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning(AI/ML), data fusion and space cybersecurity.
Off-planet data processing is the next frontier, and edge computing is a crucial component.
