Earth could warm by 7C by 2200 - leading to flooding and famine
Briefly

A study by Germany's Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research warns that even with moderate carbon emissions, global temperatures could rise by 7°C by 2200. This level of warming would severely affect agriculture, leading to food insecurity and starvation, while rising sea levels would necessitate mass migration from coastal areas. Moreover, extreme weather events would become more common, with dangerously high summer temperatures posing significant health risks. The study emphasizes the urgent need for accelerated carbon reduction strategies to mitigate these impacts.
"We found that peak warming could be much higher than previously expected under low-to-moderate emission scenarios," she said.
"The findings highlight an urgent need for even faster carbon reduction and removal efforts," said lead study author Christine Kaufhold.
"Conditions would be too hot for common crops to grow properly, which would cause global food insecurity and even starvation."
"Rising sea levels due to melting ice would force people to flee coastal cities as a result of flooding."
