Tatiana Bilbao's preschool extension for the Liceo Franco Mexicano in Zapopan, Mexico, promotes early childhood education through a design that integrates nature and flexible learning environments. The complex consists of rammed earth modules, each centered around a tree that acts as an emotional and spatial anchor. Classrooms feature their own patios, ensuring transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces are seamless and pedagogical. Designed with locally sourced materials and sustainable practices, the architecture supports sensory experiences that enhance childhood development.
The design team approached the project as a chance to explore how materiality, form, and spatial rhythm could directly support early childhood development, focusing on architecture as a sensory tool.
The Liceo Franco Mexicano preschool extension encompasses a 2,468 square meters area with modular classrooms and outdoor patios, encouraging fluid transitions between indoor and outdoor learning environments.
