Omari Orel Warren, 36, was arrested on February 14 after California Highway Patrol responded to a physical altercation on southbound Highway 13 in Oakland. Warren allegedly kidnapped his grandmother, with whom he lives in East Contra Costa County, forcing her at gunpoint to drive to Oakland. During the drive on Highway 24, he fired shots inside the vehicle, one striking the floorboard and another shattering the driver's side window. When the vehicle ran out of gas on Highway 13, Warren allegedly beat his grandmother with his fists and a gun. He was charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, assault with a semi-automatic firearm, elder abuse, and felon in possession of a firearm. Warren has four prior felony convictions and was on parole for a previous firearm offense. He was held without bail and scheduled for a court appearance on March 17.
