New Orleans Gets Its First Snow in 15 Years
Briefly

New Orleans witnessed a rare snowfall after a long absence, with measurable snow not seen for 15 years. While some residents found beauty in the winter weather, others faced dangers from the freezing conditions. Major infrastructure, including highways and schools, came to a halt as officials urged citizens to stay indoors. Governor Jeff Landry highlighted the perilous situation posed to citizens and their properties, noting that this was the most significant winter weather situation the state had encountered in decades, with snowfall levels potentially breaking historic records.
It's horrible, in its own beautiful way, said Chad Rigsby, 52, after he pulled off the blanket he had slept under on Monday night.
Gov. Jeff Landry said the same entreaty applied to a vast swath of the state, as forecasters predicted levels of snowfall that could break records.
This creates a very dangerous situation, not only for travel but for people, pipes, pets and plants, Mr. Landry, a Republican, said in a news conference on Monday.
Jay Grymes, a longtime television meteorologist in Baton Rouge... said the state had not experienced wintry conditions like this since the 1960s.
