A UK survey reveals that nearly 50% of young people aged 16-21 feel worse after social media use, with half supporting a 'social media curfew.' Alarmingly, 47% wish to grow up without the internet altogether. Conducted by the British Standards Institution, findings indicate serious concerns over how continuous online engagement affects mental health. Daisy Greenwell from Smart Phone Free Childhood highlights the need for awareness as excessive screen time is linked to emotional issues, particularly as young individuals navigate both childhood and adolescence in a digital era.
Of the nearly 1,300 total participants between the ages of 16 to 21 years old, 68 percent said they feel worse after spending time on social media.
Daisy Greenwell, co-founder of Smart Phone Free Childhood, said in a statement, 'That nearly half of young people would prefer to grow up without the internet should be a wake-up call for all of us.'
