Despite the success in increasing calorie intake since World War II, we are now battling the consequences of our food system—with chronic diseases linked to poor nutrition rampant in society.
Poor nutrition is the leading cause of death in the U.S., estimated to lead to over 500,000 fatalities annually, disproportionately affecting lower-income and minority communities.
The environmental cost of our current food system is alarming, contributing significantly to greenhouse gas emissions and unsustainable practices that impact global health.
