Former Ugly Baby Employees Are Taking Over the Space for a New Restaurant
Briefly

Following the closure of the beloved Carroll Gardens Thai restaurant Ugly Baby, former servers Angie Ruangphung and Sun Kulaptip are launching their own establishment, Hungry Thirsty, set to open on January 31. Despite the emotional farewell to Ugly Baby, which closed due to chef Sirichai Sreparplarn's desire to pursue other projects, the new restaurant aims to honor the legacy through a menu that includes popular dishes from Ugly Baby alongside original recipes. Ruangphung emphasizes the unique identity of Hungry Thirsty while acknowledging their inspiration from the former eatery.
"We’re not Ugly Baby - but we are certainly inspired by Ugly Baby," says Ruangphung, stressing that Hungry Thirsty is a new venture despite its familiar dishes.
"I knew that I needed this one," Ruangphung explains her leap of faith into ownership, emphasizing her commitment to the new restaurant.
